kahkityoong 0 Posted September 28, 2006 Some quite remarkable weather allowed me to take this capture. Those who wish to follow the sequence of events can view them in the seascapes in my new photos folder. Dawn was quite clear with a few thin clouds on the horizon that produced a blazing sunrise ("Fantasy"). The colours persisted for some time allowing the following shots "Dreaming", "Afterglow" & "Impact", all taken in clear conditions with warm colours in the sky. Suddenly the fog rolled in and the low angle of the sun filtering through gave this gold colouration. I took this shot with a wave crashing superimposed on the sun early on. Shortly after visibility was extremely poor and there were no worthwhile shots on offer. 1/2 an hour later everything cleared to reveal a cloudless clear sunny day. A 3 stop hard ND grad was required to balance out the sky & sun. Link to comment
will king 0 Posted September 28, 2006 I'd say you handled the exposure pretty well considering the having te entire sun in the shot. I really like how you caught the wave tickling the sun's bottom. Link to comment
kahkityoong 0 Posted September 28, 2006 Thanks Will, yes an exposure with some difficulties. The light was changing rapidly and I only took a few shots before the fog engulfed everything. I was hoping to get a diffraction star with the wave in front of the sun, but was happy with this dramatic result in any case. Link to comment

jeffreylee 0 Posted September 28, 2006 Good photo and exposure and compositon. If the sun is not there it would be much better on my taste Link to comment
kahkityoong 0 Posted September 28, 2006 Thank you guys. I am pleased you like it as it differs in many ways from my other seascapes. Jeffrey, thank you for your thoughts however, without the sun & wave the shot would have a totally different mood. To me it is a focal point that really brings drama to the scene. Link to comment

jonmichael 0 Posted September 28, 2006 Really amazing kah. The splash infront of the sun is very unique. Nice job keeping some space obove the sun so not to crowd it. For it is the main subject and the space around it allows it to stand out. I only wish you could have got this shot two minutes later. I still find it amazing. Your photos keep getting better and better. Best Wishes. JM Link to comment

cherlyn 1 Posted September 29, 2006 A superb landscape. What is so unique is the waves crashing 'through' the sun over the low horizon. Magical moment & great lighting + exposure. Link to comment
christopher hansen 0 Posted September 29, 2006 The sun through the crashing wave is great. Fantastic light, composition and timing. Congrats. Link to comment
juanpavon 0 Posted September 29, 2006 A magic light fills completely the scene, sensational the textures and the tones. The sea water and the wave breaking, are fantastic. Best regards Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted October 1, 2006 Superb light and colors, well composed seascape. The wave crashing is the icing on the cake. The slight barrel distortion is nice, adds to the feeling of space here. But I would rotate a wee bit clockwise Link to comment
kahkityoong 0 Posted October 1, 2006 Thank you for all the numerous ratings and encouraging critiques. This is one of my favourite seascapes I have shot so I am pleased that this has been positively received. Carsten I also noticed yesterday that a small rotation is in order to correct for the tilted horizon. Link to comment
