it surprises me that so few people have commented on this piece. it's not like anything i get to see (unfortunately) on a regular basis. This was taken on a digital camera, no? do you have it piggybacked onto a telescope? This is an incredible image/subject... better than what i sometimes see on space.com!!

L. Bastress. Thank you for your very kind critique. This image is a reposting of an image I submitted a while ago. I do this on occasion to solicit some interest on the astrophotography forum. This image was recorded on slide film utilizing a Canon Elan 7E and a home made solar filter (mylar material if the image is coloured or baedar "foil like film also refered to as a white filter" if the image is white). I used a 1200 mm f11 Bausch and Lomb Smcmidt-Cassergrin reflector, with or without a manual 2X TC, employing prime focus, which is the lens conected directly to the camera; no telescopic eyepiece employed.
