When I went to this place before sunrise, I thought about a few traditional sand dune compositions in mind, but not like this. While I climbed this dune, I kept on observing and taking shots. When I reached to this point, the foreground, (the not direct-lit side of the dunes)showed these beautiful sand waves leading towards the edge and disappearing abruptly, beyond that this dark blue lake surrounded by the dunes.

It certainly was a beautiful sight and very surprising find of a new composition. Till then it was like a mirage to find one. I was happy to realize it was rather true, as I composed this picture.

Fantastic composition! I like your description of how you came upon the shot. For as many times as I would like to think I planned a shot I find that I "happen upon" a shot more often.

What I love about this shot is the strong diagonal line intermixed with the lines of the near dune and lines of the far dunes and water. The colors are graphic and simple; yellow and blue... fantastic complementary colors. The far dune displays the idea of the shape of an entire dune and the near dune displays the detail of the dune.

Once again, Fantastic!!!

Thanx James for the wonderful critique. Great way to sharing your thoughts about the picture and perception, also giving the explanation that may have missed or even not realized in that detail by the photographer.
