stephen hazelton 3 Posted September 21, 2006 To be honest, doesn't look like much technique involved here- point and push the button. Link to comment
bmw325man 0 Posted September 21, 2006 Hopefully you punched the sign-holder in the face for being such an idiot...? Link to comment
grant4 0 Posted September 21, 2006 This critique is given from the perspective of a rank beginner and someone who has no American affiliations. An image such as this cannot be removed from the current political undertones apparent in the area in which this was taken. Should you wish to post a photograph such as this it must deliver a message much in the same way the anti apartheid photographs of the mid 70s and early 80's did. As it stands what you have is merely an image of a sign with some PS manipulation. The image delivers no message other than that which appears on the sign. Had this been a political or protest rally of some sort you could have a great opportunity to capture a deep and meaningful image that delivered a message, even if it was one you personally may or may not agreeed with. grant Link to comment
stephen hazelton 3 Posted September 21, 2006 You really have to consider your reason for photographing it. If you want to show the sign, you've accomplished that, and there's really not much improvement that could be made. The negative is a bit different, but with that scene, it won't change a whole lot by inverting to negative or back. If you're looking for a pretty picture, as opposed to a record of that sign, then I think you'd need to include more material, more of the person holding the sign, perhaps some of the scene around him. I doubt he was just carrying this to work one morning, so I'm sure there's more story than we see. I've got a couple of billboard pictures that I use for W/NW posts- the billboards themselves are interesting because of the message, but the overall pictures arent noteworthy, and I think this is in a similar category.
