Used the light umbrellas as a backdrop and to give more of a "light" and airy look....

Self-portraiture is an amazong way to really SEE oneself. At first, I found that photographing myself was vain...but, really it has helped me reflect on my outer and inner self. It is just an experiment for fun...nothing more. I am certainly not ashamed so constructive comments are most welcome... :)

Excellent high key lighting, Jennifer. As brightly lighted as the right side of the body is, there is still enough tonality to distinguish it from the background. Likewise there's tonal range throughout that maintains the sense of texture and form. And I've always liked the graininess of Tri-X - it lends an impressionistic feel to certain images.

My only suggestion would be to consider cropping, as in my example (I'm usually reluctant to crop other's work because framing is as personal a part of the image as anything else). Not that I'm an advocate of the detached, anonymous nude. But in this case the amount of the face visible and the angle is a bit of a distraction to me. If more of your face were visible, or your head were turned toward the right to emphasize the play of light along the left jawline, it might work better.

Anyway, I believe cropping from the top, as shown, strengthens the image. The crop from the left is debatable - while it lends symmetry that's not necessarily a good thing. Again, a very personal choice.

This image has many possibilities... even beyond that suggested by Lex... many abstracts and subtle lines and patterns all playing with my imagination... a nice portrait.

My first impression was also to crop out the face but after seeing the example I must say the original looks better. I'm guessing that Jenn already considered this before making her final crop. The mouth gives some personality to the rest of the image and adds something to the feeling overall. It does provide some distraction but I feel a needed one. If you look carefully, the cropped example lacks any feeling or emotion and becomes just an anonymous bust.
