aepelbacher 0 Posted September 18, 2006 This one is especially for Sarah, who has been bugging me to see more shots from our visit in the greater Boston area. :-)This bridge is really COOL! There are two sections with the wires like this. As we hiked around in downtown Boston, we found a spot where we could walk almost under the bridge. Sarah says that it is a relatively new bridge, and has been widely photographed, even by folks on photo.net. So, I'll join the masses and add my own shot of this great looking bridge. As usual, any thoughts, comments, or ratings are greatly appreciated! If you want to read more about the bridge, you can go here or here. Enjoy! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 18, 2006 Here is a shot with my wide angle lens of the spot we found where you could get a better lateral view of the bridge. Link to comment
tylerwind 0 Posted September 18, 2006 I love your capture of the great sky and clouds and interesting perspective on the bridge! In your critique photo, I find myself wanting it zoomed out just a little bit to include a bit more bridge. I'm being picky though, this is unique and pretty. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 18, 2006 Tyler - I appreciate your input ... and I do have some shots of the bridge that are wider. I'll try to hook them up on this thread when I get home from work this evening. The problem with the shots that included more was that there are light posts very close to the bottom edge of what you see here. It was hard to get a nice shot without light posts in them ... but there's always that "clone" tool! :-) Link to comment
tylerwind 0 Posted September 18, 2006 I know what you mean! Those silly light poles can really mess up some pictures! The other shots you posted are also good aside from the fact they have the construction barriers. If everything were landscaped they would be wonderful! Link to comment
afs760bf 0 Posted September 18, 2006 Hi, Lou Ann Nicely done. I love all the lines and angles. And the sky helped out, as well. Just stay out of the tunnels in Boston. Best Regards, Barry Link to comment
m_akin 2 Posted September 18, 2006 very nice graphic shot and composition...congrats. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 18, 2006 Tyler - here's a wider angle. Probably not the "little bit" that you were thinking about ... but gives you an idea. I'll give you a vertical shot next... Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 18, 2006 And here's that vertical format. Still catches the light poles.... Link to comment
sarahunderhill 1 Posted September 18, 2006 Awesome photos! You did this great sight justice. (I knew the name of this bridge, really I did....) Next time we will drive over it.... Link to comment
will king 0 Posted September 20, 2006 Out of all the version posted Lou Ann, I like the orginal the best. It gives it a sense of abstraction and mystery. This is very well seen and composed. Something I need to learn. If I were at this location, I would have pulled out my ultra wide lens and tried to fit the whole bridge in the composition instead of focusing on one aspect of it as you did. I need to try to break myself out of that habit. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 20, 2006 Thanks, Will - learning to zoom in close was something that I learned here on photo.net. I am a landscape photographer at heart, and my wide angle lenses are the ones I favor the most. I have also learned something else here on photo.net: when I go to a spot, like this bridge, I try to take as many different shots with all of my lenses (including different zoom lengths) as possible. I have about 25 photos of this bridge taken from this spot, and have found myself wondering if I should have taken more (the beauty of digital!!) This is definitely my favorite of those images, but, as you can see, I also have a few of the wide shots. :-) Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted September 21, 2006 I like your original posting, plus the vertical shot. I think this type of shot may be your forte, Lou Ann - you have been getting some great shots lately. Link to comment
novastorm 0 Posted September 21, 2006 Love the original, you did a great job balancing all the lines. Wonderful work Lou Ann. Congrats ~ Link to comment
henrimanguy 0 Posted September 21, 2006 Nice graphic shot. I more interested by ancient bridges (and generally by the ancient architecture than the modern) but photographically speaking this sort of graphic composition can attract my eye beter than a larger view. Link to comment
LindaM 2 Posted September 22, 2006 i love this, and i also like the original post best. i love the way the wires slice through the sky and clouds. very dynamic shot LouAnn! Link to comment
Phil_Light 795 Posted September 22, 2006 I'm with Kim in regard to this image and the image with vertical framing seem to be the best of the bunch. You've got all the right elements (leading lines literally) and lots of visual interest. It appears you've become quite accomplished with PhotoShop CS2 as well. Enjoy what you've been posting recently. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 22, 2006 Thanks, Philip - I appreciate your comment ... but I have to admit that I haven't even started my learning in CS (don't have "2" yet, either). It's in the forefront of what I want to accomplish in upcoming months ("spend time working through photoshop tutorials" is on my "to do" list). This is very, very close to what came out of the camera. :-) Link to comment
lbattjes 0 Posted September 22, 2006 Sorry it's been a while...crazy busy lately...need to pick up my cam and play...sigh. Anyway, I really love this shot. The crop, the perspective, the sky, the lines...they all lend to a very striking image. Very well done! L Link to comment
ljk 0 Posted September 22, 2006 These three last postings are very strong. I love them all! Your compositions are excellent! This one looks as if it could be a reflection, although I know it isn't. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 22, 2006 Thanks, Linda - I was hoping that you'd see this one if you had time. :-) I hope that it gives you warm fuzzies about home. :-D Link to comment
baldurbirgis 0 Posted September 23, 2006 Lou Ann, this is a very good shot, However I am more found of "A little bit wider.... " version and the "Vertical" version. They are both excellent in my opinion. Regards, Baldur Link to comment
