IMHO a great one for textures, less for this theme. I like the blue! As for composition I'm not sure a square is the best choice - you have a nice leading diagonal that (in my eyes) screams for a more landscape-like format. Example attached.

I agree Tom... the diagonal works far better in landscape format... i really missed this one! I love square formats but i should always consider the image in its whole. It is a theme fit for textures, i agree, but considering that a black hole (a singularity) is a *spot* (a singularity in mathematical terminology) where relativistic laws stop working, i considered this could also fit the "spot" theme.... after this explanation, would you still consider this more on the texture side? it is becouse of this duality that i couldnt make up my mind.

Initially, I did think it could work for textures too, but perhaps without the motion-blur type thing happening there at the top, which seems intentional. I like that motion blur for this theme, even a little more of it, and the black spot a little stronger and more prominent too. I was even thinking you could have a scrunched up wad of paper or something else falling into it. The rectangular ver. would work better for this theme. So with a few changes I think you could make it work for either of the themes. Nice thinking, PT.

The rectangular version changes the shape of the object. I agree with Chitra and reworking it a bit could make this a stronger image. I believe without the blur this could be a good texture shot as well. The blur works for this theme. What is this? Looks like a wicker waste basket with a blue filter. ?>?

well actually this is a lamp cover pending from my roof... so to shoot it i removed the lamp and climbed on a ladder; paper falling in it... uhm.. nice idea, i guess i should use some kind of glue to do that, since the lamp is still attached to the roof, but it is doable. About blue color... the image was shoot raw and then I intentionally applied a blue hue to the raw file... equivalent to a blue filter maybe, but not quite the same since i have control of how much blue is applied. Other tecnical details: handheld flash at approx 50cm distance, 1/500, f32, radial blur 9px (applied to a "soft" selection with the center in the black spot) applied when the image was still 4000x4000px (approx).

This made me think of "the great blue yonder" when I saw it. :)

I'm of the opinion that this may fit the texture them more than this one but after reading the other comments, I've gotten an appreciatation for what this photo is doing. I think the motion blur detracts from the "on the spot" feel and perhaps even a tighter square crop to remove it may enhance the photo. Nice idea.

PT, I think your shot works very well for the theme. My initial reaction is that the black hole was placed too close to the edge of the photo. I don't know if is is possible to crop the photo with the hole on maybe the lower right third. The current composition leads the viewer eyes off the photo. If the black hole were on the third my eyes might stay in the phota and have the ability to wonder around the balance of the composition. I like the color hue and texture of the shot. It might be interesting to see what it would look like with the motion blur even more pronounced. It might give it the feel of things being sucked down the black hole.
