I notice you have reservations about the sharpness of the kit lens, I use mine a lot, and the photos are VERY sharp. Is your lens the mark II version? If it is the roman numeral II will be on the front of the lens. BTW, NEVER use that camera in auto mode, aperture priority or shutter priority gives much better results. Link to comment
