Canon 300D with EF-S 10-22mm at 10mm - Even with a Graduated Neutral Density filter, the difference in brightness between the sky and the lake was too extreme for a single exposure. Therefore I blended two exposures in Photoshop. Both were taken at f11. The shutter speeds were 1/20 sec and 1/30 sec.

This is awesome. I love the way the clouds and flowers balance each other. What made you do this one in B&W?...although it's wonderful this way with the great contrast.

Thank you Kim. I like this better than anything I have taken in some time. (Not that I have been that productive of late.) I was originally going to do this in color but when push came to shove I thought it had more of an impact in black and white.

I have done more color than I have black and white over the years. I am making a conscious effort to balance things out these days. In addition I have always thought it required more of the photographer and a better quality image to be sucessful in black and white. You can mask a lot of flaws with color.

Thank you Pascal. This is a fairly famous spot. I made plans to photograph Mt. Ranier from there about six weeks in advance. The weather didn't cooperate though and it took a couple of weekend trys before I was got this shot. Which was fortunate as it was my last opportunity.
