deniselanterman 0 Posted September 15, 2006 Carl, this image elevates the subject. Rich colors, powerful presence. Regards. Denise. Link to comment
leighperry 0 Posted September 15, 2006 Very striking Carl. 'Found abstract' shots can feel contrived to me but by comparison your composition is positively organic. I really enjoy the asymmetry here, countered by echoes between the vertical elements. The increasing saturation from bottom to top shifts it into top gear. Link to comment
root 0 Posted September 15, 2006 So glad you all are enjoying this. It's a repeat session of one I did two years ago. Turns out that shooting just an hour so earlierin the day changed the lighting more than I would have expected, in this case, separting the two red areas quite bit. I liked the way the light fell on the upper right elements to focus all the attention on the contact point with the circle. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 16, 2006 Now that's pretty cool - I'm at it again with the double o's! A dark massif stands against a blood red sky somewhere in the american hinterland, at least, it does if I slightly defocus on this. It's great. Link to comment
hhentila 0 Posted September 16, 2006 Very creative and original. You can find many levels from this shot. Link to comment
gianlucatrogi 0 Posted September 16, 2006 abstract photografy ia a hard way to go but this is a great one, have you others? Link to comment
AJHingel 127 Posted September 16, 2006 Very good Carl. Have you tried to rotate it 90CW ? It becomes even dramatic. Link to comment
mandar1 0 Posted September 17, 2006 A breath of fresh air. It is original and the orientation works very well. Thanks for sharing. Link to comment
hanna_cowpe 0 Posted September 18, 2006 Carl, when I turned to the TRP this morning I decided to see how many pages I would have to go through to find a true abstract. Finally on page NINE this jumped out at me before reading the category. This is a good indication that genre representation in the TRP is unbalanced. This has everything I love in an abstract: shape, form, texture, contrast, balance of colour and composition and a subject that immediately evokes an interpretation for me. I'm sure it's different for everyone as Anders' suggestion implies, because I would feel no need to rotate it. By the way, congrats on your award for Oz #1. Link to comment
root 0 Posted September 18, 2006 Hanna, the ratings on this image are unusually high compared to most of my other abstracts. Just for fun, browse the "abstract" category and you'll find that at least half of the uploads don't belong there. . . . and thanks for the compliment. I've got a few more from this session and I'll be curious to see what the feedback is like. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 18, 2006 Unusal beauty of an abstract, I think it is a perfect crop, and color nuances. Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted September 19, 2006 Great, like some ancient blood sacrifice. You've got a seriously good eye, Carl. Link to comment
Phil_Light 795 Posted September 28, 2006 I think between yourself, F. Y. Awle, Erwin Bosman, and Sarah Underhill, Photo-Net has four of the best abstract color image creators I've seen in recent years. This is fabulous, transforms the original objects into beautiful abstract expressionist image. Could be interpreted a myriad of ways! Link to comment
root 0 Posted September 28, 2006 I've long admired Sarah's work. Also look up Bruno Sturman (hasn't posted here in some time.) As I recall, you have a few images of this genre yourself, along with a large collection of portraits and other genres I can't even begin to approach aesthetically or technically. Thanks for the visit. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted October 4, 2006 It's very nice, Carl, but I prefer "Dream catcher", for the darkness and lighting contrast that I miss here. Regards. Link to comment
