Wrong spot at the wrong time

I'm not sure why its the wrong spot - seems quite right to me ... Whatever, right or wrong it's a good theme fit.

 

To get a shot like this requires a solid dose of patience. The composition is good with the critter and leaf nicely filling the frame (no complaints from me to "get closer" for this shot!). Nice details in the eyes.

 

Just a pity about the bright zone in the background.

 

Good detail and timing, PT. Perhaps your title refers to the wrong "spot" in the background(?) I like the composition and light here; easy to pick faults with the bg or the touch of leaf at the bottom which breaks the smooth space to the left of the main leaf, but this was hardly the studio where you could arrange things to suit so I think you did well.

Thanks for the comments Dominique and Seven. An alternate title I was thinking of was right spot/ wrong spot. It is the right spot if you are the dragon-/damsel-fly (I can never tell the difference), but the wrong spot if you own the wings sticking out of the mouth.

Great catch - but I too would have missed the wings sticking out of the mouth!

 

You should get rid of some stuff to focus the eye on that. I would suggests a tighter crop alltogether - pick you pick (cutting out some of the predator's body or not) but definitely get rid of the dark blotch to the left of the stem of the main green leave. Also - indeed - pity for the highlight around the head but I guess we can't have everyting :)

 

I really like the (non-obvious) theme fit here!
