Bonneville Salt Flats Racing, Wendover, Utah

I first saw the Salt Flats in the Canadian Movie "August 32nd on Earth", then I decided to go! Well worth it! This is a panoramic crop of my 35mm photo ...

It was around 35mm if I remember correctly. I cropped it to a panoramic format. Here's some links about the movie "32nd August On Earth": 1, 2, 3, 4

Both the original and this version are good. Of the two I prefer this one, the big cloud in the top right-hand corner of the original bothered me a bit ... dramatic but it took away from the main subject. This version retains drama but is much more focused.

Thank you Mike and Jed for taking the time to compare this crop to the original. I agree with you that it's more dramatic like this. I'm posting a small version of the original so viewers can compare them.

I can't quite tell from the original but it looks like you have a little more foreground you could add back in and maybe crop even a little more from the sky to really emphasize the salt flats' amazing surface. Nice photo!

Scott, thanks for the suggestion, I just tried "your" crop, what I like about it is of course the Salt but also I kept all the bottom and cropped it so the dark line starts at the lower right corner, it kinda leads you towards the bike and the center of the picts ...

Also for my photo at the top of the screen I added some "blur" to make it look more surreal ...

You have insight into the lines being stronger to the driver and manager with Scott's cropping but it is also a way to use the rule ot thirds for the horizon which makes for a more dynamic eye experience for the viewer.

You've captured the magnitude of the space very well here and you're exposure is well metered.

I agree with the first comment. Although i do like this shot, if you had taken one with out the guy in white and had the biker pering srtaight and ready to go it would give a diferent drama. Still very nice photo. great exposure and DOF.

HAHA! I'm definately a speed junkie and when I opened this picture I happened to be listening to a house mix of Paul Oakenfold and I literally melted into this photograph.... The image of what is to come stands out with such a startling detail. This picture for me preludes a huge adrennaline rush.... I had one just opening it for the first time. THANKS FOR POSTING THIS PICTURE! It would be nothing without the wide angle. Excellent job!
