Definately some nice textures going on here. Since most of the foreground string is in focus, it was my eye's first reaction that either the top part should also be in focus, or cropped out. Now that I look at it more, it's not quite such a big deal, yet it still bothers me. Great composition. Black and white really works well here. Megan

Very nice theme fit, and the composition and choice of B&W really work for me. I don't mind the shallow focus. For me it is a way to guide my eyes. If it were all sharp, we would have no obvious reason for looking at this photo top to bottom or bottom to top. As is, I was drawn to the sharp bottom, with my eyes moving up into the "softness". Well done PT.

Cheers,

I like the subject, the diagonal composition, and the way the main texture separates the light from dark. The string makes for a strong texture and focal point, but I would have to agree with the previous comment about having all the string in sharp focus... hard to do I'll admit, with a curved object, and still blur the background. Ordinarily I wouldn't go for such a symmetrically even composition, but in this instance it adds a much stronger focal point.

Congrats PT on such a nice shot. The subject is interesting and the execution (composition, lighting and tones) brings out the textures extremely well.

I love the tiny strands of rope that stand out against the darker shadow zone. Great combination of straight lines and curves in a very pleasing composition.

For me the "central" point in the image is where the curved structure at the back meets the roped curve, and so it might be better to have that area the sharpest in the whole image, but really it's only on looking at it intentely and analysing it that I come the that conclusion (ie a nitpick). It certainly doesnt spoil my enjoyment of the photo.

I like this very much PT. It shows texture as if noticed casually and then goes beyond that reminding of a lazy summer afternoon. The diagonal comp. adds good dynamics. For a photo on texture, the comp. you you have now is very good.

=== My theme related comment ends here :-) ====

(Since it has a very good stand-alone potential, I mean, apart from the theme, a little more relaxed comp, with a little more room in the front and not so tight diagonally would also be nice and convey more of that relaxed feeling.)

Makes me think of old world craftmanship. The darkened (but not blacked out) background definately adds to the focus on the subject and warmth of the photo. The blur in the upper left hand corner doesn't really bother me for some reason, I think in many pictures it would; this one works.

The theme fit is fantastic. The choice of B&W understripes the delicate texture. The dynamic composition (using the diagonal) and the exposition and DOF are just the best. Overall mood is intriguing,

very well done, PT, cheers Jana
