brownphotographic 0 Posted September 10, 2006 Need to have some feedback here. Trees are some of my favorite subjects. I love black and white photography. It's easier being mostly colorblind. Critiques are needed, ratings are still welcome. Link to comment
vernon_warrell 0 Posted September 10, 2006 I will try to oblige. First, it would be really nice to view the whole image without scrolling, perhaps I should get a bigger screen or maybe you just overlooked while saving for web (I haven't looked at the rest of your portfolio yet.) Second, well, I like it and I think black and white is the way to go with this one (not much color anyway, I assume) but it might benefit from a bit of dodging and burning, just a wee bit, to bring up the contrast. In my opinion some of the ground could pop out and look nice with some highlighting. Some say that a true black and white photo has the full range from pure white to pure black and I agree...sometimes. This may be one of those times where that "rule" would help keep the eyes interested. And last, the composition might be improved with just a few steps to the right. I like the spacing between the foreground tree and fence posts and I think you could keep it that way and still bring those background trees out to play just a bit more. I also like how the horizon line is tilted, it creates a strong triangle with the fence line, "unconsciously" keeping my atention. Nice photo, perhaps some of my observations would help, perhaps not.
