I like the way the textures of the paint lead the eye dramatically in, but I find the black zone uninteresting. Perhaps (depending on what's outside) to include more or the outside and have the strong line as more of a diagonal - then go for B&W (for me that would equalise the outside with the frame more and everything would hold together better). just some ideas

Thanks Dominique for the ideas! Here is a rotated version without the black. I would have taken this shot again, but it is rather rainy out today, so I will try another day when it isn't quite so dreary.
