rkynast 1 Posted September 9, 2006 Good theme fit, PT. I had thought of doing this but couldn't get to the river today because of the possibility of a flash flood. The composition is missing something for me. I tried changing to b&w but that didn't work for me, either; a bit higher contrast might help. Since the leaf is there, I had some small sucess cropping to feature the leaf as the subject. I do like the ripples in any case. Thanks for posting. Link to comment
htc 0 Posted September 9, 2006 A good photograph with respect to the theme PT, the textures of sand are well defined, and the shapes are repeting themselves nicely. The subject however is placed in the corner and that diminishes the impact. I would have placed it more in the frame and boost the colors a little bit to get more impact. cheers, calin Link to comment
dominiquedodge 0 Posted September 9, 2006 I like the subject (a lot) and find that the lighting is excellent since it brings out the shapes very well. Colour and sharpness, are spot on (on the spot?). All in all a well presented image, and one that I could enjoy looking at for a long time. I forgot to say that what works well is the fact that the leaf has the same shape as we see repeated in the sand. Looking now at the composition there's the leaf top right that catches the eye first of all, and then a group of darker ovals 3/4 down and to the left. I think the overall composition would be stronger if these two elements were in opposite corners of the frame. As it is I'm not so fond of the almost-square format, or the dark bottom left corner. nirakara 0 Posted September 9, 2006 A very good theme fit PT. I thought this would be coming :-) The ripples seem to add and to the texture nicely. Exposure is good. I am wondering if you had set the aperture smaller than you have, perhaps you could've gotten more of the graininess of the sand? Just a thought. I too feel the leaf could be a just little more into the frame. Link to comment
megansteen 0 Posted September 9, 2006 Good Theme Fit PT! The lighting is great in the photo. It brings out the shapes in the sand and creates great shadows. I prefer the version another member of PT did. Megan Link to comment
giuseppe_miriello1 0 Posted September 10, 2006 a nice execution PT, the angled light works really well, there are plenty of delicate tones to play with except maybe a bit of whites... i don't like very much the leaf, yes it contains its own textures and these are very different from sand's but it is small it doesnt make any sensible counterpoint to the image in my mumble opinion... i guess much better would be a square crop and just sand textures, possibly a wb could work either. uneboite 0 Posted September 10, 2006 A theme fit in my opinion. Composition-wise I prefer Dominique's version. For the reasons she gave. I like the monochromatic aspect "broken" by the colors of the leaf. Link to comment
pt2 0 Posted September 11, 2006 This PT appreciates the feedback. I know the leaf is a bit of a odd one and would not be my first choice to include. It is not really the subject matter because the sand textures are. This was the only stretch of sand that was not trampled on and somehow the leaf was there & I thought it would be ok for contrast in tone and texture. I should have used a smaller aperture, Chitra (it is going soft bottom), but there was even with this more detail in the sand. It was subtracted a bit by Noise Ninja which I use on all digital shots. I am very pleased for all the different point of views. Thanks, PT. Link to comment
robidooo 0 Posted September 12, 2006 Very nice texture in the sand. The leaf? I would ged rid of it. I don't find it is enough of a visual element to raise the overall level of interest of the photo. But I do think that something else than sand is needed in this photo to make it more appealing. It just need to take more place, and maybe be positionned differently. Link to comment
shotokan 0 Posted September 14, 2006 Very nice texture in the sand. I'm not sure I like the leaf, however. It is not a question of placement, I just think this image, especially given the theme, would be better without the leaf. In any case, well done PT, Cheers, Mark Link to comment
