hool 0 Posted March 6, 2002 this is one photo from a series that was inspired by many sleepless nights. i used a model, and arranged the blankets over top of him, and used natural light from nearby windows. what kind of feeling (if any) does this give you? if you comment/rate, let me know which of your photos you'd like me to comment/rate, and i'll return the favor. kyle_cassidy 0 Posted March 6, 2002 i'm not sure why i like this so much, but it's very clever, i like the lighting -- the burned out bit at the top i'm sure is a result of the scan or it can be fixed but a great shot nonetheless. Link to comment
sarasotalizz 0 Posted March 6, 2002 The 'feeling' I get is kinda spooky, in a surreal way. The way the cloth hangs, it almost looks like it's a human-shape (but not human) covered in cloth coming towards you, rather than laying down. I agree about the lighting and the spot near the top, other than that I like it. I'd love to see this with other fabrics and lighting styles... could be a coffee table-style book? Link to comment
jamesb 0 Posted March 6, 2002 The shark-gills effect. For some reason it always evokes an emotional response. This also resembles suffocation. Truly nightmarish. Thanks for the inspiration. Link to comment
nomade 1 Posted March 6, 2002 A strong shot for sure... With a lot of character. My thoughts about it at firs weren't of somebody that cannot sleep, but of a faceless and colorless ghost, one of those that appears in nightmares... Link to comment
hool 0 Posted March 7, 2002 the head is a bit burned, yes, but i decided to keep it that way for the time being. at first glance it detracts from the quality, but i feel (after staring at it a long time) that it adds effect to the discomforting tone of the image. what would you like to see instead? i will post the link to the entire series shortly - but this shot is probably the best of them all. i was just experimenting with many different poses and textures.. some of the other shots are a bit weak. allan engelhardt 0 Posted March 8, 2002 Funny. I like the folds, but the highlight is a little heavy for my tastes. Maybe give him/her a red rose in the mouth (on this side of the blanket, of course)? Link to comment
staci_ferrara 0 Posted March 9, 2002 I think this would be awesome without the hot spot on the face area...just my opinion, though. Very nice shot. Link to comment
andrea_gingerich 0 Posted March 11, 2002 Quite disturbing...but that's good. Quite a unique image. Link to comment
jo_thorpe_buckmaster 0 Posted April 6, 2002 It made my heart race. I almost felt as if I was the one suffocating. Very vivid image! It really grabs you. Link to comment
isaiah_estell 0 Posted April 9, 2002 Unsettling in a most tasteful way, quite impressive. As fas as the "hot spot" is concerned, I rather agree that it adds to the dramatic implications of the image, although I'd love to see a print without it, just to compare. Link to comment
chizuko_chavez 0 Posted May 17, 2002 Great shot! Makes me think of dusty old mummies.I like the original better than the second, by the way... Link to comment
mstrada 0 Posted October 30, 2002 Really cool. The way the sheets are folded makes me think of articulated metal, like this figure is wrapped in armor or machinery. That gives it emotional impact -- this person is suffocated by what looks like one heavy sheet. I won't go further into what it evokes for me, because I try to restrain myself from sounding like an Art History 101 dork. Link to comment
