dchatter 0 Posted September 7, 2006 The noise that you will notice in this picture is due to the sensor of my camera which is degenerating. This was shot in Chicago, very close to the Art Institute, on the morning of 02nd Sept,'06. Your comments and critiques are very much welcome. Link to comment
street photography karina 0 Posted September 7, 2006 An interesting scene with interesting people. Especially the light falling on the girls face (left) and the man sleeping (right). But also here a bit too much distance and I think rather difficult light conditions with one part in the shadow and the other in the sun. Link to comment
dchatter 0 Posted September 7, 2006 Thanks for the critique Karina, much appreciated. About the distance, I'm not sure I could have included everything if I moved closer (there is minimal cropping from the right side). The light was very difficult indeed, but that's what made it all the more challenging :-) Link to comment
raddatzphoto 0 Posted September 7, 2006 Great composition, interesting subjects. I might consider cropping off @ the right pillar highlights, but then.... the lighting is a important part of all this. Link to comment
dchatter 0 Posted September 8, 2006 Thanks a lot Michael... I tried it, and it helps to concentrate attention more on the people certainly, but as you've pointed out so nicely, the light is important. I only wish the sensor of my camera was all right, the noise on that pillar would have been absent. Link to comment
LorenzaF 0 Posted September 8, 2006 BUT HOW GOOD IS YOUR NEW CAMERA??????? Or is it you? ;-) By the way, I love photos where there is a strng difference between light and shadows. Link to comment
dchatter 0 Posted September 10, 2006 The camera is good no doubt; even though its sensor is rotting, it takes reasonably good quality pictures. The variations in light is an integral part of this shot. Best regards. Link to comment
LorenzaF 0 Posted September 16, 2006 Not only the variation in light but also the sense that they give to the whole scene. What I find interesting in this shot is that light almost divides the image in two halves, the right one lighter, the left one darker. At the same time, there are some elements in the darker half that are underlined by the light coming from the right (the men drinking coffee inside, the woman sitting at the table on the left) and some elements in the lighter right half that are underlined by shadows (the chairs, the half column), and it is this symmetry that makes me come back to this picture to see it again.
