PT, you are trying to show textures alright and trying to make the comp. interesting by including a some more elements to break the monotony, but for me the photo overall doesn't feel sharp enough and you might've lost some quality in web conversion perhaps. Could you please post the original color? The colors might add to the textures.

I agree with Chitra about the sharpness.

I think the composition can be improved too.

This pic contains interresting elements.

I like the grey tonalities.

To me it is a theme fit.

The colors in the original didn't quite seem right, thus the b&w conversion... anyway, here is the original, fww. Thanks for the input... I was reluctant to post this, but it was the only "texture" theme I came across on this days shooting.

For me it would work both in B&W and/or in colour if the composition was stronger. Ideally I'd like the feathers closer together, perhaps touching each other, and shown tighter in the frame (macro), without the stick thing on the right. The feathers against this background certainly hold some potential, especially with the play of shadows on them.

I thought at first that the 'feathers' were actually cane grass - it took me a while to work out the macro scale! On the theme of textures, I would agree that this is a perfect theme fit - the softness of feathers and of mossy patches match, as well as the contrast of the spikiness of the feather ends and moss leaves. But I do feel that some detail must have been lost in the compression for web. I'll give benefit of doubt and enjoy it anyway.

Honestly, I'd just go back and shoot again. The idea is meritory, however it deserves a better implementation. Perhaps using only one feather (or both of them crossing eachother) and shooting the scene form much closer would enhance what we already see, both in terms of textures and sharpness.

What is being perceived as a lack of sharpness may be due to the photo being a bit flat. Boosting the contrast will help the perceived sharpness quite a bit in my opinion.

I've added "contrast" by using Duotones in CS2. Is this an improvement and does it help with the sharpness? I'll let you guys decide.

PT, you have a contrast in textures which is quite an accomplishment, and I like the deceptive scale. However, the composition doesn't work for me - it needs to be cleaner (no "stick thing" happening as mentioned by Dominique) and angles that elevate the feathers, I think one ought to be on a diagonal.I think you caught a delicate moment of light but sometimes it is just so hard to tell from these web versions. Thanks for your contribution.

Very nice theme fit. I quite like both the color version and Onyo's version. I have to agree that the stick doesn't need to be included. I think the composition would be ok like this without the stick. Megan

While the contrast of textures is an interesting idea, and this is a good theme fit, I'd have to agree with what's been commented, that the composition could use a little more work. The B&W works better to my eye.

Yes, you do have texture here, but as a photo outside of the theme, I don't find it to be very interesting. To me, the link between each textures makes it a little too heavy. By that, I mean that having the feathers directly on the grass, soft on soft, does not really work. I would prefer to see it on wood, or even cement. I know it is cliche, but there is a reason why it has been done so many times.

Also, the branch, I find, does not belong there.
