freeelectron 0 Posted September 4, 2006 Helo~ I am a beginner of photography, and a new member here. Please give me critiques and comments, and help me to improve. Thanks I used exposure compensation = -0.7 step, to make it more moody and saturated. No PS* Link to comment
kellen1 0 Posted September 4, 2006 Very nice warm photograph, although you may not want to cut off the top of her head. I am a beginner too, check out my portfolio, a few months here really helped me. Good Luck! Keep shooting, you have a good eye! Link to comment
anthonyd 0 Posted September 4, 2006 Welcome to PN! I'm a beginner also and I think you'll find this site a great place to be! I understand what you're doing by trying to set a mood here. The problem for me is that this looks like all of those shots I took before I learned to set my white balance. I know that's not the case here but that is what it looks like to me. I think it looks nice on her skin tones but not with the dress and couch. If you are trying to stay away from PS, then I would suggest trying to set the mood with lighting or filters. Some candle lighting to help create the same look here might be nice. A soft focus filter would look nice as well. I took out the color cast and added some diffuse glow to see what this would look like. I liked it, so I posted it for you too see. I did this because I find it helpful to see how others see a photo. Just let me know if you would like it pulled from here. Congratulations on the engagement and all of the best to the both of you! With Respect, Anthony Link to comment
freeelectron 0 Posted September 5, 2006 Thank you very much for your comments. PN is really a nice place for me to learn. For this photo, I deliberately set the white balance to be warmer than normal, as I am trying to create a warm tonation, a feeling of Renaissance oil painting, in which only warm colour like red, brown and yellow are used. Anthony, your PS edited photo is nice, but of a different feeling. I like the glowing feeling of the dress. Did you edit the preview size or the original size of the photo? If you have edited the large size of this photo, would you mind sending me through my email (<10Mb per email is ok)? Thank you very much. ^^ Thank you once again for your comments Kellen and Anthony. Lets keep shooting and improving. Check out my porfolio regularly. Cheers~ ^^ Link to comment
anthonyd 0 Posted September 5, 2006 I edited the smaller version but I just did it again with the larger one. I think I've got it the same! I will be happy to email it but sometimes my attachments don't work so let me know if you do not get it today. -Anthony Link to comment

freeelectron 0 Posted September 7, 2006 Vrindavan Lila, Thank you for your comments.I am trying to create a warm tone in the photo, what is why I adjusted the WB. Perhaps you are right that the theme "Fiancee" suits more with Anthony's version, which is more romantic and dream-like. Nevertheless, I am trying to create a feeling of warmth and harmony in this photo, furthermore, I am trying to create a home-like feeling in this photo, giving an image that my fiancee is sitting casually and "sexually" on a chair, waiting and looking at me etc... I have taken other photos of this pose, and some of them are of broader view, as you suggested. However, I think this photo is the most notable among the others of the same set, that's why I choose this photo to upload. In fact I still have a number of photos to share here, yet I am still a new member, so my upload quota is very limited. Do come and check regularly. I shall upload one photo per day. Thank you for your comments.Regards Link to comment
she_dances 0 Posted September 7, 2006 You have a great camera, you could make wonderful shots with it :) For this photo I would suggest, that you focus on the model's face, not on the edge of the dress. Try another light, for example daylight - you would see, that your pictures would have another expression, the wouldn't be so yellowish like this one. You could buy also a book about photography, National Geographics has a very good one for beginners. You could learn more about light, composition, about your camera, about movements, about objectives... Have fun! :) Regards, Dessi P.S. Try not to cut feet and hands. Link to comment
freeelectron 0 Posted September 8, 2006 D.B. Thank you for giving me comments and recommending photography books for me. I will try to look out for the book once I have time. As far as I remember, the focus is on her face. For the yellowish colour, I should say, I deliberately compose like this, as I want to create a warm tone here, as explained in my previous messages below this photo. Thank you for giving me critique, and please keep track on me, and see if I have any improvement. And please continue to give me suggestions, and help me improve. Regards. Link to comment
