There is a blur in his hair which is ok. The blur on his shoulders are a bit distracting though. Again this shows on the side of his neck. Could you explain your intent? Focus on eyes is excellent which is what really counts for any portrait, formal or informal, as a success. Regards, ~d.d.

Thank you for the comment and inquary.

The battle ove eull frame and APS sensor is partly because of the complaint that APS does not give you a shallow enough DOF on portraits when you want to isolate the subject as much as you like.

Here, the photo was taken at F1.4 at about 3-4 feet away. This gives me about two inches of clear focus, mainly the eyes and the nose. The shallow DOFis suposed to let you focus on those part of the face in focus without getting distracted too much by the rest of the image which recede to the background. If you are getting distracted then it is not working that well.

Great of you to stop by, need your keen eyes.

Best regards.

PS I think my monitor changing gama on my once in a while. This photo seems a bit dark to me now. I have two versions of this with one being lighter. I'm not sure if it's the gama or if I have posted the darker versio. How does it look on your monitor?

I like this kind of straight and living snaps.

I can't understand why some people complains about NOT shallow DOF.

Is there a real problem?

You can easily use a budget lens as 1,4/50mm, 1,8/85, or 2/100mm to get a nice DOF.

If the problem exists it's behind the camera.

On my screen theres som yellow to green hue in his face.

The light, shades and reflections in his eye are a minor considering.

I like it. Living pics always blow away studio shooting.

Kind regards J O

Jan,

Nice to hear from you my friend.

The DOF is intentional and it's meant to be that way. Good thing I didn't go with Canon 85 1.2 !!!

He has very dark skin as he is out gardening all the time. There was an incandescent ceiling lamp over head and that's where the yellowish tones come from.

Thanks again,

Cyrus
