Pilot's view of the Golden Gate

jefro

Taken with the tried-and-true method of holding a point and shoot Minolta up to the windshield. I think I set it to "landscape" mode, focus to infinity and no flash. Photo was taken just after dawn on my first solo cross-country flight while I was taking flying lessons.

It feels like a bit of a snapshot to me, I find the blurred object in the front to distracting, however I suppose that is what a Pilot's view is..

The bottom part of this picture is quite annoing, but when I've read in what condition was taken, I understood that this has a meaning; and the picture now tells me a story.

Wow. This has the potential to be a great image.

Unfortunately, that thing in the front kind of ruins it.

i assume it's a peice of helicopter or plane. The light could also be better, but still pretty nice.

I can't grasp the previous comments concerning this image. Of course it's a snapshot, you were in a plane. I can hear you now - "Mr pilot, can you circle back around and hover while I set up my tripod." At least you knew enough to place it against the window and to turn the flash off. Great job!

i wonder if the golden gate bridge is the subject of the week. "come on, just try it, everyone's doing it!"

ok, just kidding, this is the third one i've seen today in the recent photos. but every one show something different, and whoever said this really tells a story is right. and you've got to love those hills at the horizon!

I should have been more clear in my explanation---this really is the "Pilot's View", since I was the pilot, and the view is from the left front seat. That "wing" is actually the top of the instrument panel and the cowling (a cover over the engine compartment). Had I used faster film you would see a propeller partially obscuring the view. Maybe it would make more sense then?

My wife also thinks the blurry instrument panel is distracting; I am quite attached to it. Without it, this is just another postcard of the bridge, of which there are zillions. This is indeed a snapshot, but perhaps one that only the pilot of a small plane can appreciate---limited audience.

Thanks very much for the comments! My new/old camera should arrive tomorrow, so perhaps my subject matter can improve!
