Thanks for the comments. Sorry about the size. I have updated the images to a bigger size

For some reason it would be better with just the paw print on the lower right, ut I still like the shot an lot.

I took this shot while trying to photograph patterns on clayee mud in

an abandoned limestone quarry. My dog walked by me right in front of

the tripod I had set up and while I was trying to shoo her away I saw

the almost perfect imprints of her paws that she left. While I was

reasonably happy with the composition I thought I could have stopped

down the aperture a bit. Look forward to your comments.

Hi Deepak. The elements in this photograph really work well together in my opinion. It takes creativity in the photographer to recognize a superior composition when he sees it and then take that shot. Good job!

I also wondered about the color. Was a filter used to achieve the slightly greenish cast that I see on my monitor, or is it just my monitor:-)?

I like the coloring and the side lighting of the tracks that leave them highlighted by the shadows. Also the oblique lines of the cracks in the mud are a nice feature. What bothers me about this image, though, is that it almost seems like two different images separated by the oblique line of the crack. My eye jumps from one paw-print to the other, and I'm not sure where to settle. Perhapss focusing on the print int he lower right ... a single print with cracks... would help that. Good idea though.

I think you started out with a great photo here Deepak. I hope this is framed and on your wall! It reminds me to look down next time I'm out in the field. I too jump from one impression to the other, but cropping it out would not leave enough to have the same impact in the remaining view.

I also have the greenish cast on my monitor, but I like it. Normal dirt browns here would be common. I suspect this is a wetland area that has dried, leaving the chlorophil (?) of the algae behind to create the green? My guess anyway!

All in all, I like it alot, Keep up the good work!

You know I hadn't noticed the green tinge till you guys brought it up - I see it now and it isn't there in the original image although the color of the scanned image otherwise seems pretty accurate. Must have been the scanning - I guess I could fix that with some color correction in PS. Dick, I agree about the two paw-prints being kind of discontinous - but felt a lone print would be too isolated. I think I framed the prints too close to the edge of the photograph. I was using a 105mm micro lens to shoot the patterns in the mud and didn't change lenses when taking this shot. As a result, shooting down from chest height, and trying to sqeeze in both prints there was not much space left on the edges. In retrospect I think I would have used a 50mm gone down closer and left more space on the edges. Do you think that might have helped with the discontinuity?

Maybe a little more breathing room on the edges would have made a difference. I agree that a single paw print doesn't have the same effect. The interplay between the cracks in the mud and the paw prints is something that I think would have been worthwhile exploring too. I hope you made a series of images with diffent compositions; did you?

I think that the two paws here give a sense of scale. You have an idea of how big is the dog and the cracks in the mud althogether. A lot has been discussed already and agree with the need of space on the top-left. Also (and I'm being very nit-picking with that ;-) I'd have preferred that the top paw was on a mud island and not crossed by a crack.

BTW: Looks great color-inversed as well.

Excellent eye, great composition and textures. I presumed this was toned until reading the comments - maybe the cast is a fortuitous event, personally I find the green quite attractive.

Hello Deepak...Excellent photograph...I've attempted animal print shots over the years but have never captured such excellence. The photograph would not have such an impact with a flatter light and I applaud your photographic eye.

Also, I like the use of a tripod. Well done!

This is not possible! I have a picture just like this one, although from a different angle and in a different color mud. Mine is a found subject so I could only photograph what was there. If you planned this one it is very good! If you just happened to find it, you are very lucky. All credit is given you for choice of angle, cropping, and placement of paws at top left and lower right. Great photo! I like it better than mine, maybe, now I have to try and dig it up to compare.

Isidro, thanks for your comments. No, I didn't plan this, as I have explained in the critique request on top. I was actually setting up the tripod for taking close-up shots of the patterns in the mud when my dog walked by me and I saw her prints. I got lucky! I would love to see you image.
