si_thacker 0 Posted February 27, 2002 I'm a high school student and I've been photographing for about 9 months. I've been experimenting with artificial lighting recently, and this is one of the shots that I liked. I'd love to know what other people think of it. Any comments are appreciated. Thanks! david yama 0 Posted February 27, 2002 This photo is really interesting. It IS way too dark but for some reason, I keep wanting to look at it. I can't say why though... I do like the detail in the hand, I just wish the photo was lighter so I could see more detail in the subject's face. I think you're onto something here but I think a little tweaking is in order. Happy shooting, David. Link to comment
cd thacker 0 Posted February 27, 2002 I like the high contrast effect. It highlights the main components of the image - those being the hand, nose, cheek, and ear. Too dark? Well, maybe - but would it be as mysterious if more detail were revealed? Oh, and just in case you're wondering: no, we are not related; we're total strangers who have a last name - and photo.net - in common. Si, how did you light this? Link to comment
si_thacker 0 Posted February 27, 2002 Apologies for how dark it is. I'm going to try to reprint this one tomorrow. Thanks for your comments! Link to comment
ken_imduaikiat2 0 Posted March 1, 2002 There is no need for an apology here. I guess people get in photo.net to get different insights on what share ideas. I think it's a very well lighted and composed features-portrait--the nose really stand out. The gray tone, I think at first was probably a printing mistake which should be corrected. But after I read Doug's comment about the sense of mystery projected by the odd gray tones, I kinna agree with him. How about this... repost both fixed and non-fixed images side-by side (combind it in PS) and post a request on the forum. I'd like to see what people think about it about this. Link to comment
si_thacker 0 Posted March 1, 2002 I just uploaded the new version. Doug: This was lit with a simple lamp that was lying around the house. That's all I have to work with :) Link to comment
cd thacker 0 Posted March 6, 2002 Works for me. You'll probably get better results with household items now, than you will with pro items in eight or so years when you have your own studio. Link to comment
arlan_walsh 0 Posted October 31, 2003 life, ...if I could only... , the things I see, the things I can't do... searching inside... the hand sticks out like a juxtaposition. Link to comment
