I, like you, enjoy doing a certain amount of photography that reflects the harsh realities of life. The opportunities to do this sort of photography often come when you least expect them and are least prepared. Likewise, these opportunities tend to evaporate just as quickly as they materialize. The fleeting nature of these moments requires that camera settings, lighting considerations, perspective and a host of other variables must be resolved in seconds rather than minutes or hours.

As a result street, documentary and some types of travel photos are, more often than not, technically and aesthetically flawed. However, this does not detract from their originality and they can still serve up an emotional impact as you have managed to do with this series of images. And, on those infrequent occasions when skill and luck join hands, you end up with extraordinary images such as those done by top notch news photographers.

These types of images often may not merit high marks for aesthetics but I think more recognition should be given to their originality. If anyone doubts this, I encourage them to summon the courage to try something as complex as you have here. They will find that, in addition to photography skills, you need to have some unusual social skills to carry it out in such a way that does not marginalize and degrade the subject.
