This was one of my first attempts at using a hair light when

shooting a model on a black background. I was happy with the

results. I feel that the pose works well - especially the diagonals

created by her arms and legs. The falling hair and the head

slightly tilted ad a bit of pensiveness to the pose.

Note: there is no body make-up used and the hair and the face

make-up are a 2 sec. touch up and a comb through. The model

is not a professional model.

Any and all comments and critiques are welcome.

Not much to dislike - model nicely separated from the background, the diagonals work well (I wouldn't have noticed them if you hadn't drawn attention, which suggests either that it's very subtle or that I'm very imperceptive), beautiful warm tones. Maybe cut off a little abruptly at the bottom - dunno, still a beautiful girl (photo! not girl! photo!)

Lucas, this is a hit for me. Good skintones and nice placement. I'd only want to see more of her body and hand (maybe) but I don't know the conditions out there of course. Nicely done IMO. Congrats.

Wow. Cool. I feel good about getting such a positive response on this shot. Thanks again for all the responses so far - It gives me the feeling that I am heading in the right direction.

;-)

I too really like this shot. I do agree with a couple of other comments about the lower part of her body. It's a shame that it's cut off like this. On the other hand, unless she was sitting on black cloth, and her feet are posed just right (something that I find really hard to do. Feet, just damn unco-operative!) I know from experiance that how she's sitting can create some ugly lines and things where model touches ground.

I like the placement in the picture. All that black though is a little distracting. Not that I know what to put in there. If this was an ad then copy would go in that space, be even then, a slight graduation of colour, maybe a very very dark red to black 'glow' in the corner or something? I don't know, really, it's something I'm still struggling with myself. My first response is always to leave large blocks of white or black, but the more I do, the more I think that there should be something there. Even if it's so subtle as to be more or less invisible. I don't know, try using the cloud filter but fade it out to create a really subtle texture in the black. (Shoot, I can't remember what the filter is really called, I'll look it up and edit this once I have the info,)

Ok, now I'm rambling.

Again though, great work.

Yes, very beautiful lines. I feel also that the photo ends a bit abruptly at the bottom. But maybe exactly this would go fairly well for an ad.

uniquely composed, well formed body ( I too wish the bottom was left in the picture)..well lit!.

I am sure the model was more than pleased with the result.

She's a beautiful woman but I liked the blatant naughtiness of the other shot... did you shoot any of her with the black velvet blackdrop, but with the sequins and horns? The use of negative space and subdued lighting is terrific here, though. I don't know what her toes look like, or whether she likes them, so I have no idea whether the crop is best; but I like the colors and lighting enough that it doesn't matter to me.

Good lighting set, nice composition and good-looking model pose

but... why did you cut her feet? (8/8)

This pose is outstanding!! All the lines are angled in such an unusual and striking way. I like the negative space and I really can't say why. Maybe because it feels like a "stage" shot and the blackness creates a hidden audience. I do think the entire body should be here. Tad hot on arm and knee. However - this image stood out as unique and beautiful.. Can't say enough for the body angles. Wonderful.
