About Jose Rizal A patriot of the highest order On December 30, 1896, he was executed by a firing squad at the Luneta. Rizal did not want to be shot at the back like a traitor. But his request to face the firing squad was denied. When he heard the shots, Rizal twisted his body to the right to meet them. He fell dead with his face upward - facing the dawn - as befits the great and honorable man that he was. Link to comment
