lburk1 0 Posted August 13, 2006 This is a very old and new graveyard. Let me know what you think. Link to comment
volker1 0 Posted August 14, 2006 I will not rate the picture, because you know perfectly well that you are not allowed to take pictures at this graveyard out of respect. You were told, when you bought the permit, there are signs, and it is written on the permit. Link to comment
lburk1 0 Posted August 14, 2006 Actually the guide was about 10 from me as I shot these and there were no signs around. I shot from many different angles for about 15 minutes or more and no one approached me. Also if you notice none of the headstones are legible. This is on purpose out of repsect. And the permit that I received was nothing more than a small raffle type ticket I had to attach to my camera strap. I believe you're mistaken. Link to comment
pinks2000 0 Posted August 15, 2006 Hi. I also went there and took a number of pictures of the graveyard while the native guide told us of the story. He seemed unconcerned that I was taking pictures. I also bought a permit and nothing was said about the cemetery. Here is the basic version of the story he told: Taos Pueblo Graveyard and remains of the Mission Church of San Geronimo built in 1635. Site of the Taos Massacre of 1847. The native Indians had rebelled, killing the Govenor and others. Troops were sent in to quell the uprising. The natives fled to the church for sanctuary. The troops shelled the church with all inside. The church was never rebuilt. Link to comment
lburk1 0 Posted August 15, 2006 Thank you... I feel vindicated even though there's really no need. I gave up years ago trying to offend people, or caring if I unintentionally do. Life's too short and too many things to see and shoot! Thank you again for your post. I should have posted the story as well. Link to comment
susan stone 0 Posted December 7, 2006 Out of your landscape folder this is my pick for the most interesting composition. I like that it "tells a story" and the crosses and ruins create some very interesting graphic lines and forms. You used a good perspective to show the relationship of the ruins and crosses. Would work well in B&W too. Link to comment
lburk1 0 Posted December 8, 2006 Thank you Susan. I appreciate your comments and your work. Great shots. I love the Kamikaze Fireflys. Sometimes accidents happen for a reason?!? ;-} I will try this one out in B&W that's a great idea. If it works out I'll post it. Link to comment
