Its a series of 20+ Mega pixel sensors, suspended on a plastic flexible base. This means that you use a fresh sensor for each image you want to "capture" and then wind on to the next sensor( thereby avoiding the need to clean the sensor when it gets dust on and avoiding "dead pixels"). As the strip is capable of remembering each captured image there is no need for a memory card. The series of sensors is kept safe within the plastic container and is inserted into the camera. The sensors come in a variety of styles enabling " captures " to be varied as is your artistic desire.

 

All very clever really.

Being quite elderly at 45, I distinctly remember this stuff, and still in fact use a similar product from Kodak. It dates from the old days, and had the distinct disadvantage of having to point your camera at a scene in order to generate an image, rather than just painting in the pixels later as is the current rage.
