Fr. Junípero Serra as the Protector of the Native Indian Children, Monument at Mission San Juan Capistrano, California, U.S.A.

The statue dates back to the early 20th century. It was created on the orders of Fr. John O'Sulivan, pastor of the Mission 1910-1933, who, since no reliable information exists on how Fr. Junipero looked, also was the model for the statue's face. According to the San Juan Capistrano tourist board, "the Indian boy indicates Sierra's love and devotion to the Indians of California whom he came to evangelize".
