Guest Guest Posted August 2, 2006 hmm, its been a while so pardon my rust. I like the subject and it certainly fits with the glass theme. Great color. Placement in frame could be better in my opinion Link to comment
jana 1 Posted August 2, 2006 This image fits both themes of the month.. I agree with Nicky as far as the composition.. I might place the subject on the other side of the frame (horizontal swap..) I wonder how this photo would be "improved" if the silver hanger was as sharp as the glass. cheers Jana Link to comment
pt2 0 Posted August 2, 2006 Thank-you both for your comments. I am attaching another image of this subject, and the hanger is as sharp as the glass, but the bottom metal thing isn't. Anyways, heres a different version, with a totally different composition. Link to comment
pt2 0 Posted August 2, 2006 Hmm..for some reason the attached image isn't as sharp as it is in my photo editing software. Sorry. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted August 2, 2006 I like the pendant framed on the right. did you try any other background colors? and why did you choose black? as a contrast to the red or any other reasons? Link to comment
lucyhollis 2 Posted August 2, 2006 I think I would prefer a composition half way between the two, to me the cord loop opens and faces towards the left, so in the second photo it opens into the photo nicely, but it feels a bit too cropped on the right edge. The space around the bead in the first photo feels more balanced. A different colour than black as a background? I'm not sure, the black contrasts nicely and really makes the bead show up. If you look closely, there is an amazing range of colours in the reflection on the bead, its not just red, so anything else may clash. Link to comment
shotokan 0 Posted August 3, 2006 As has been said above, theme fit is obvious. As for composition, I have a different suggestion: How about a vertical, with the glass at the bottom 1/3 of the image, and the cord loop perfectly intercepting both of the upper corners. Seems a little glamour-ish, but I guess those photos sell as well. In any case, a good start to the folder. Cheers, Mark Link to comment
mandar1 0 Posted August 3, 2006 PT, this fits the theme for sure. However, the choice of the background takes something away from the idea. I would suggest photographing the pendant when someone is wearing it. In any case I would recommend some color other than black as a backgroundn -- maybe even white with a bit of backlighting through a translucent white background. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted August 3, 2006 PT, this fits both monthly themes, as it has a negative space and glass, I agree about the sharpness. The glass is nice, I would have liked it a bit higher on the frame. I like your second version PT, the chain is a very nice addition. It was nice if it was more diagonally from the glass on the right to the upper left. I like the color and form of the glass. nirakara 0 Posted August 3, 2006 I prefer your first composition more PT, that feels natural and more easy on my eyes with a little more space to its left. I like the somewhat blurred background of the first one. The slight texture in the 2nd is slightly distracting to me. I too thought of a completely white hi-key background for this, may be with some faint shadows resulting from lighting to add dimension. I am not sure what that black area on the top part of the bead is, but I am wondering if it is a reflection of the black background. In that case, a white bg would prevent that. A nice ornate fit to both the themes :-) Chitra Link to comment
pt2 0 Posted August 3, 2006 Thank-you all for your critiques. I chose black for the background for the contrast again the bead. I will try this shot again with different compositions, and backgrounds. The black in the top part of the bead is part of the glass. It also has it on the bottom. Link to comment
silvertip 0 Posted August 4, 2006 I agree with the above. Also the necklace doesn't add much to the compostition IMHO.How about shooting this with a night sky background? Stars would be a interesting background.Food for thought.Chuck Link to comment
htc 0 Posted August 7, 2006 The exposure is fine, and the lines moves you directly to the subject but unfortunately this does not work for me PT; The negative space does not help much here (IMHO would better fit the other assignment) and the object seems not too sharp. I would preffer to have something else as background (the sky or someone's skin); with skin in bg, you could have a nice contrast between textures. Another suggestion is get real close and try a macro; the glass itself seems interesting enough. cheers, calin Link to comment
uneboite 0 Posted August 8, 2006 I definitelly prefer the second one. I think different colors or tonality (greys) for the background and the lace holding the bead would be better. Link to comment
