mudster 0 Posted August 1, 2006 ...with the comment about the faces. I think the mood is portrayed just fine without a clear shot of the man's face. Link to comment
michaelging 1 Posted August 1, 2006 Faces are important , but in this case I think you see enough of both to fill the need to see the face. I like the subject and photographicly you did a excellent job. Thanks for sharing it. Link to comment

gabler 0 Posted August 1, 2006 I disagree for a different reason. Both faces are obscured, and it appears intentionally. Perhaps I read the intention wrong but both are obscured to show a lack of importance in their individuality. The man is looking for affection and getting it with sardines and the cat is looking for sardines and getting it with affection - the identity of either is not important as they are not what brings this "friendship" together for the picture. Think me cynical all you want, but since it is in a public rather than private place, and since "Sardines" is put before "Friendship" in the title I have to think this interpretation is the intention. As such I think this is very well composed. Link to comment
vdhamer 0 Posted August 2, 2006 I guess I also would have liked to see a bit more of the expression on the elderly gentleman's face. But that wasn't meant to be - if only because he probably needed to focus all his attention to avoid spilling any oil on his clothes. But I can only confirm Christopher's view: the tin of sardines itself (also somewhat obscured) is the central, third actor in the scene. A colleague once told me that she and her husband had two cats - and she and her husband each fed a single cat. Both cats bonded with the human that fed it. Link to comment
daily_photograph 0 Posted August 2, 2006 A welcome alternative to the mass of "oversharpenedoldorientalmen". Telling image! Link to comment
briant 0 Posted August 2, 2006 I revise my opinion and on further examination agree that this photo works very well as it is and that it is a superb study of friendship and committment. A great image. Link to comment
geri cullen 0 Posted August 11, 2006 I love this portrait - it conveys a wonderful gentleness and devotion between the man and the cat - have read other comments. Don't think you needed to show face. The mood, colours, composition etc., are perfect. Congrats. Link to comment
sawicki 0 Posted August 23, 2006 Lovely moment caught. The sardines are not so obvious here, but anyway this is a great portrait. The cat shows his feelings to the old man. Well done and composed. Link to comment
