This is #3 in my lighting assignment, please tell me what you would

do differently, or what you see that I may have msised so that I can

learn from my mistakes. Thank you in advance

Hi Kat

I'm no expert (I'm in the same boat as you) but I think there is over exposure on the arm of the chair and the 'teddy'? to her right, also to her face. This can be rectified using software but otherwise I like it - it's natural!

Good luck!

Hello Kat. It may help for us to know what it is you wish to achieve. It is obvious that you have used very harsh light very close by. What effect are you after. Light can be used in many different ways to achieve very different results. Cheers.

Karl, I think the feeling of overexposure happened when I increased the contrast, the bunny is in the wrong place all together, but editing it out is too difficult. I will have to play in PS a bit more to see how I can perhaps soften the starkness a bit

Roy, WOW, your portfolio is amazing. I was experimenting with different lights and positioning them differently. I have 4 photos in my portfolio illustrating the differnt lights and positions and lighting. This photo I wanted to cast a shadow on the wall, unfortunately the focus was a bit off and I had to crop the photo. My daughter doesn't like to sit still at all, so I have to just shoot and pray :). What I am looking for in critique is what people see that takes away from the photo with my past few critique requests people have really helped me find out what I need to watch for when taking my pictures by pointing out what is wrong or what would make the photo better. In your case any advice on how to shoot children would also be much appreciated :)

Thank you both very much.

Hello Kat. Unfortunately children will be just that children. Unpredictable, that is what makes them so unique and often produces those special moments that we try to capture on film. Or nowdays on a chip. Photographing them requires patience, perserverance and persistance. A litte bit of luck would not go astray either. As you say maybe a prayer or two. In my own experience I have found that it pays to keep the sessions short and fun. If something is remebered as fun we are happy to repeat it. If we only remember that it was boring we certainly don't want to do it again. Alway treat them with respect and reward them for their cooperation. Maybe something that they would like to do. Give them the opportunity to look through the camera and allow them to take some shots. It's a joint effort. In regards to using lights. I was given some very good advice by a fellow photographer when I was starting out. The more lights you introduce the more complication you will have. For every light there will be a shadow. Master the use of one light before you introduce more. To be successful at photographing children or anything else for that matter it must come from the heart. It is not good enough to go through the motion. We must be passionate and truly believe in what we do. Cheers and best wishes.
