Built for Speed

Exposure was 1/500th second at f11 using two scrimmed Rollei e36re flash units. Bogen tripod. I cut the original 4x5 down to 6x9 so that it would fit into my film scanner. Levels adjusted in Ektaspace using Photoshop CS.

Artistic rendition, love the light and exposure.

Talking about suspended isolation with the great colours against a pro black bg would just be the beginning of a long appreciative discussion of what I think of this image. Very well caught Walter and thanks so much for sharing!

Walter, this is awesome. I wonder how far the little beast was from the camera? It must be mind blowing to look at the slide, with the details... If this is whole frame, then it's something like or more than 1:1 magnification, isn't it? Did you use the finder to track the beast, or did frame in advance at the most probable location and just waited? So much questions... I just wish I could see the trany... All my thumbs up...

Thanks Jiri. The subject was about 12 to 15 inches from the lens. This was cropped from the original and represents about 1/3rd of the full frame. I used two Rollei potato masher type flash units (GN 160 @ iso 100) positioned on either side of the camera. Those were about 3 to 4 feet from the subject. I scrimmed both of them.

It is not quite what I am after. The wings, for example, are perpendicular to the film plane and are not seen well. I intend to keep photographing these guys until the season ends. Hopefully I will get something that I am happy with. Thanks for stopping by and commenting! Regards.
