Not bad of a manipulation if you are a beginner - idea was very good, may be execution was short of what you wanted to achieve. But having no 1 spot with this image - lucky you! Will look forward to more polished works from you

This is a very unique image and for a beginner the PS work is not too bad. There are some edges around the balloons that need cleaning up. As for the perspective of the red balloon looking up, the entire image has an odd feel but I think it works because it is so obvious. Clean up the PS edges and this is a great shot.

The "obviously PS" critics just don't get "Fun". They probably don't enjoy magic shows either cuz it's all "deceitfull trickery"...On a serious note, you can easily clean up the line on the right side of the big balloon with the clone tool by running it along the sky at the edge of the balloon line. You can do the same with the green against blue horrizon line. I like the saturation and overall PS composition of the added balloons. Good job! Ken

Tom

I feel you should stop making these kinds of comments. I started photography about a year ago, and I am pretty pleased with some of my photos. The people I gave credit to helped with constructive comments when I started. Obviously, we all learn. I am not a professional photographer, nor do I desire to be one. I am very good at what I do, one of the very best. Yet, I do not belittle people who genuinely desire to learn. I think your comments and your attitude are most unfortunate. Obviously some people like the work I have done, and are willing to help me (and other beginners) develop.

Please, if you cannot make constructive comments, refrain from further comments.

Many thanks!

Tom, why are so hung up on ratings? Who cares if this photo got high ratings or low ratings. You sound like a jealous little school girl. Why not make a comment that's worth something instead of throwing childish insults. This should be a community for sharing and learning and not for immmature rants. I'm not saying that you should praise this photo, but at least be mature about your critism and critique.

...and where's the link you're referring to?

Should this photograph be rated as a Landscape or as a digital alteration?

The effort was not in the taking of the photograph but in it's alteration.

When landscapes are rated what are we evaluating, observational skill, technical skill? should we add other elements such as proficiency in the use

of Photoshop? Perhaps we should evaluate the photographers ability to imagine a scene. Sure we can have fun in photography, the possiblities of having fun with Photoshop are endless but should we mix imagination with reality? It could become very confusing especially when more plausible alterations are

posted with no acknowledgement of PS work.

If you can more accurately paste the rightmost balloon, this would be a perfect shot. the colors are quite amazing and the lighting seems great. Great work.

This image is a sandwhich of overshot cliches. It is strange that you have done the 'bale of hay shot' and the 'balloon' shot and put them together. So as far as originality is concerned - it rates lowly. I have to agree with the other criticisms made regarding sloppy PS work. The absolute worst of this is the the addition of the balloon on the left which has an entirely different perspective.

The end is reult to me looks like some sort of feel-good religious postcard, which sort of makes me feel a bit ill. But obviously suits the taste of many viewers.

Very colorful for sure...eyecatching. Keep working on your photoshopping skills and you will have shots like this looking like they were real. The red balloon in the upper left looks awkward (wrong perspective). Add some shadows and eliminate the lines around the balloons edges....then you are there.

The colours are so good that it almost look artifitial. But the composition here is outstanding. Great photo.

I cannot understand why a forthright comment about a photograph can be construed as an insult. Tom has already apologised for is initial response.

There is a degree of sloppiness in our thinking vis a vis what is acceptable

in the landscape category, where do we draw the line?

Hello,

You have mentioned in one of your earlier comments that the sky is really the sky that belong to this picture>

>(this was actually the sky that belongs to this picture), <

But I feel that the sky and the ground are two different pictures. When the picture was visualized in a mgnified view, this was how I felt. I would appreciate the comments on this either from the author or any expert

Further, I do believe that this has some problems in prespectives, although the image is pleasing to the eyes.

Thanks Rajith...This was the original sky. I selected the sky and foreground separately using the magic wand. I then changed levels for the sky and the foreground separately. Unfortunately I have not yet mastered RAW conversions and blending. This was not shot in RAW though, so unfortunately I did not have that advantage. Despite feathering, I had a black line between the sky and the foreground. I am not sure how to overcome that problem. So I moved the sky down a little and used the eraser and clone stamp to try to overcome the black line where sky meets foreground. Hence the intersection may appear somewhat artificial.

I am trying to learn PS and would benefit greatly from advice and constructive criticism. With constructive advice, I would be able to learn how to do this right.

Best wishes

just a thought on selecting the sky and foreground to control them differently: there are many ways to do this I am sure but give this a shot, go to the channels, select the one with the most contrast from sky to foreground, make a copy of the channel as not to alter the original, on the copy channel go to levels and increase the contrast to black and white only or as close as you can get without losing the details in the horizon line, if you find that you have areas that do not go completely black or white you can use the brush tool and paint those areas black and white, what you are trying to achieve is a channel that is white in the entire sky and black in the entire foreground, once you have achieved this simply command click on the channel (mac), control click (PC) and you will select the white area of that channel, you can feather the selection (.5 pixels would be my thought), you can inverse the selection to get the foreground,

I hope that makes some sense.

This is just wow. I love the clouds and the balloons and the grass and the hay.. I love it all! The distance between the objects give just great detail in depth! The colors in the balloons are fantastic! There is not one thing I would change with this photo. Makes you feel you can almost reach into it and touch the grass! Great Job!

Sorry, but I don't buy your claim that the blue sky is the original sky. The clouds at the horizon level look to me to be clouds that would appear if you pointed your camera up and to the sky, rather than straight towards the horizon.

Also, the deep blue sky at the right of the image reaches all the way to the ground. The sky usually appears bluer the higher up you look and becomes lighter where it meets the ground.

I think the sky from the orginal hay bail shot was replaced with the sky seen in this image.

Very nice image at first. unfortunately not so impressed when I enlarged it and saw it was manipulated. Since you wrote it was a Photoshop composite it is still OK, but the PS work could be done much better.

E.g. no halos around the baloons, smoother transition to the horizon. Usually it?s

more haze and less saturation at the horizon.

The composition is great though!
