andrew gundershaug 0 Posted July 27, 2006 Wonderful photograph, the composition between the rocks and the sky is perfect! Andrew Link to comment
paul pinkley 0 Posted July 27, 2006 Mike, the Velvia was on your side on this! Shadows in the corners a bit dark but because of the brooding clouds and Velvia has punched the color up bit has made all work out. Seeing more and more Seascapes from the Mtn Man ;-) Link to comment
mikestacey 0 Posted July 27, 2006 Thanks to all who commented. Paul, Velvia did work OK on this morning; it was actually raining and very overcast but when the sun rose the colour was subtle enough so as not to be rendered with the out of range colour that Velvia can produce. I have a version which is not so dark around the edges but I think this works because of the matching dark areas around the edges of the frame - as you say. I have some more shots from this morning (which I thought was going to be a right off) and will post them soon. Yeah I know, Mtn man goes to coast occassionally, water is such good subject matter, especially the ocean. Thanks again. Link to comment

DavidRabinowitz 9 Posted July 28, 2006 beautiful colors and image...i have the 43mm lens, how do you effectively use the gnd with the rangefinder? Link to comment
rajeevthomas 1 Posted July 28, 2006 Wow....Mike...this is just so beautiful....excellent tones....water is amazingly blue, regards, Rajeev. Link to comment
mikestacey 0 Posted July 29, 2006 David the 43mm is a real gem of a lens, maybe the best piece of glass I own although the 80mm is just as good. I use a Cokin P-series holder and a very rough method for positioning the grad filter. I look at the filter from the front and assess where the graduation ends. If the shot requires only a bit of ND at the top then I'll slide it down just a bit. You can tell fairly easily where the half way point is. This works well enough for nearly all situations where the graduation is not too hard. Link to comment
DavidRabinowitz 9 Posted July 29, 2006 Mike, thanks for the info...i recenly picked up a GND for my Canon. The Cokin P with adapters fits the Mamiya 43mm as you said. I'll be taking my family to Cape Cod soon and will try your recommendation...Thanks again! David Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted July 30, 2006 This is probably my favorite of the three, because of the tremendous leading line carrying us out to that golden spotlight in the distance. The symmetry between sky and sea is also impressive -- I especially like the reflections in the foreground pool and the balance between the highlights top right and bottom right. The sky as a whole is fascinating. This is surely among your finest recent work. Link to comment

mikestacey 0 Posted July 31, 2006 As most have mentioned, and I'd agree, the composition is the strong point of this image. Thanks for taking the time to comment, as I mentioned on one of the other posts, it wasn't that difficult to take a good shot on this particular morning at this particular place but I'm happy with the results. A few more still to scan and process from the same morning... Link to comment
