uneboite 0 Posted July 24, 2006 Well I'm sorry but as hard as I try I can't make what it is. I'm not sure but I think I see a wooden bowl with some wet cover over it?!? Technically the elements are well balanced. I wonder, is it the wanted effect: No! I can't see what it is? Link to comment
rkynast 1 Posted July 24, 2006 I'm with Joe on this one: I can't tell what the photo is about so I can't comment on theme fit. Likewise I'm having trouble commenting on the technical aspects. Sorry, PT. Link to comment
nirakara 0 Posted July 24, 2006 I am sorry I don't have much to add to the interpretation but I tried to think first before scrolling down to see the comments... I got nothing, but there was a thought I had in mind to show some food burnt or something like that... since I don't see any food here or nothing too charred, I don't suppose it is anything like that. seven 0 Posted July 24, 2006 I believe it might be a play on the the cliche that men leave the seat down and then struggle with their aim. It's something that has always annoyed me - the urban mythical belief, that is; however, thematically it would be good from a certain point of view. Link to comment
uneboite 0 Posted July 24, 2006 Well on a second look I think Seven is right. That seems to be it. And the wet look seems to confirm the bad aiming theory. If it is that, it sure is a theme fit. The automatic reaction "yuk, no!" Link to comment
shotokan 0 Posted July 25, 2006 Funny, before reading any of the other post, my first thought was leaving the toilet seat down. Well thought out PT. I do agree with Seven, however, that it is not a universal flaw of man. :-) Cheers, Mark Link to comment
dominiquedodge 0 Posted July 25, 2006 Theme fit is strong for me, but lets not put all the blame on men - this might just be a dirtly public toilet, plenty of them around ... Maybe the title should have been XX + XY? I also see the seat in danger of slipping off to the right (faulty hinge) so there's another No!. On aesthetics it's harder to comment. The negative mood is there (good) but some viewers are struggling to interpret it (not so good), so maybe more visual clues were needed? (thanks for sparing us all the same!). Front edge seems a bit overexposed (on my new bright monitor that has been calibrated). Link to comment
mandar1 0 Posted July 25, 2006 Hmmm, the idea is interesting, but the lack of visual clues makes it tricky. I am not sure about the tilt either. Maybe greater depth of focus will solve the problem. Funny and lighthearted interpretation of the theme. Link to comment
robidooo 0 Posted July 25, 2006 I too thought that the theme is hard to see here, but at the same time interpret it as the fact that "the men must lower down the seat" unwritten rule! But it is not shown enough visually. Maybe seeing a men walking away and the seat still in the up position would be stronger as a theme fit. Technically, I like a lot the treatment that was given in the B&W conversion. I like the grain that is present. The DOF is just perfect for this composition. Link to comment
silvertip 0 Posted July 25, 2006 Somebody call the toilet police!A little too up close and personal for my taste. But I've got to admit the image gets it's point (no pun intended) across. No hit and miss here hehe.Good work PT. I would not have thought a shot like this could work.Chuck Link to comment
nirakara 0 Posted July 26, 2006 PT, Although I can see now what others think it is, it would be more clear if it was taken in a slightly different angle (a little higher) with a little more DOF, to be a bit more obvious. Your thought on this is valid for the theme (my subjective opinion wouldn't matter). Link to comment
