seven 0 Posted July 21, 2006 Well done, PT, a definite no-no - at least that would be the reaction from both sides : the suicide says no to Life, and those finding the person would say no for the opposite reason.I like the off kilter angle; nicely thought out and, um, executed. Link to comment
nirakara 0 Posted July 21, 2006 Just looking at this made me very queasy and a definite NO! Very scary feeling and hard to look at, inspite of knowing it is a setup! That is probably the effect you were going for. Highly effective composition! The low-key feel is very appropriate, but I wonder if the palm area could've been just a tad lighter. I don't think I would return to this one much often to read other comments... too gritty for me, BRrrr... Link to comment
megansteen 0 Posted July 21, 2006 Yes, a very good theme fit. Good composition. I too think that the palm of the hand could be a bit lighter. Great angle, as Seven said. Love the b/w. Megan Link to comment
shotokan 0 Posted July 22, 2006 Very nice themefit. Although very morbid, and has me shivering at the sight of it, it is very nicely executed. As others have mentioned the angle of the shot is very nice.Cheers, Mark Link to comment
lucyhollis 2 Posted July 22, 2006 The angle helps give the impression of a slightly deranged state - or maybe the view on the way to hitting the floor? Although I can see that the darkness helps give a negative tone to the image, the hand could stand some lightening and then over all contrast increased across the photo so that one can easily appreciate the subject matter and not have to peer into the computer screen for details. While lightening the image, I've noticed some nice swirling lines in the pool, which are missed right now. INcreasing the contrast would also lose some of the subtle shading of the tiling, maybe to represent an irrational, not seeing the full picture, mood. I've attached an idea. Link to comment
pt2 0 Posted July 23, 2006 I'm sorry to have inflicted this on you, but I'm pleased it has produced the intended reactions. The shot was planned carefully but then rather hastily executed, since both PT and the model were eager to get it over with (no pun intended). A bit more light, and more blood, on the palm would have been better as you say. But PT wishes to keep the dark mood overall. Lucy's version looks way too bright, in fact seriously overexposed (Lucy: please check your monitor calibration - see the traffic light shot in this folder where Seven has posted a test strip). My first trials didn't include the drain hole, but then I found it symbolised life draining away, so I included it with some tilt to emphasise that. Seven: thanks for the link to the song lyrics. It's true that "The game of life is hard to play". Link to comment
mandar1 0 Posted July 23, 2006 PT, very good idea. The tiles provide strong lines leading to the drain and the "strange" angle almost gives it a photojournalism kind of feel. Link to comment
uneboite 0 Posted July 23, 2006 A great shot of a sad thing. Great theme fit! Brrrr! Nothing new to add to what is stated above... Nice composition. I prefer the original low key version. I agree with PT comment on the other suicide pic in this folder. This is the "after" shot. The other is the "before". Link to comment
