sjmurray 33,860 Posted July 18, 2006 Unposed shot taken from a larger photo with lots of people and clutter. I don't usually "photoshop" my images this much, but it seemed to be the only way to isolate this little girl and her ball. Link to comment
sjmurray 33,860 Posted July 18, 2006 What do you think, over done with the blur? or is it OK. I usually do just "straight" images. Link to comment
onlocation 0 Posted July 18, 2006 Yes i think you have overdone the blur a little it would seem to work except the table at the same point of focus distance as the ball and girl should remain sharp because it doesnt it the ball appears to be resting on something unknown to me and the image appears unrealistic to me. Nice light and tones Link to comment
alan999 0 Posted July 18, 2006 Hi Steve. I think the blur makes it look like the girl is floating because you cant tell whats around her. I Do like the pic alot though. Maybe you should do afew of the same pic with less blur so you can compare them with each other. I have only ever used the blur twice on any photos ive done and i found it hard to judge how much to use to. You just have to stick with it and keep playing with PS! As they say practice make perfect, Keep it up. Cheers Alan. ( by the way any advice on any of my pics would be greatly appreciated ) Link to comment
peter van put 0 Posted July 18, 2006 I do think the blur is overdone - the girl seems floating - but this add an almost unworldly atmosphere to the picture. A very nice photo Link to comment
sjmurray 33,860 Posted July 19, 2006 Thanks everbody for taking the time to comment. I will try some variations and lessen the degree of blur. Link to comment
sjmurray 33,860 Posted July 19, 2006 Here's the actual photo. I think you can see here why I used such a pronounced blur. Link to comment
jim kerr 0 Posted July 19, 2006 Steve, you have done a great job on this. It has went from a just an average so so snapshot to a real keeper......Jim Link to comment
joel_truckenbrod 0 Posted July 20, 2006 Have you tried giving spot coloring a try Steve? It may work well with a black and white conversion in this case. I actually like the other people in the frame as it shows how much the girl is in her own seperate world. A square crop may work well. Cool! Link to comment
sjmurray 33,860 Posted July 20, 2006 Hey, nice to hear from you Joel! You must be busy with that 4x5. By spot color, do you mean everything black and white except the girl? Maybe. Being an art student, you're probably favoring the "tableau" interpretation, LOL. I was thinking of a maybe a little less blur and done more carefully might be OK. I did this one pretty hastily. Shoot me an email with some new images, dude. Link to comment
kentb2 0 Posted July 25, 2006 Steve I always love seeing an original with the final image. It's so interesting to see how we interpret our approaches to finding the shot. I find this a creative discovery. Link to comment
