Winter Sun

This photo was taken late afternoon while I was waiting to get some

nice sunset colors on the 14ers nearby. The kodachrome didn't

really bring out the colors I wanted, so this turned out to be the

best shot on the roll. I would be interested to hear everyone's

thoughts.

The lack of color adds to the feel of desolation under a sun whose warmth is not felt; whose power is seemingly diminshed by the bleak landscape. Lovely texture on the snow, too.

I really enjoyed this picture. Even if the sunsets didn't work out (seems for me they never do) I think you got a real winner in this one. Congrats on it (and I hope it wasn't too cold!)

Too bad you weren't around when Kubrick needed backplates for the ape sequence in 2001. He might've actually admitted he liked your composition skills.

Regas, Thanks for the comments on my Gila River Reflections. This image makes me feel at home after years in the intermountain region shooting in winter. And in the 100 plus heat and drought this year here in the hills of southern New Mexico, makes me want to feel the bite of the wind that produced the hillocks where the road had been plowed. Like the mood, the near monochromatic effect and the cloud hidden sun.
