Comments, ratings, suggestions appreciated on this dark shot. I liked

the pier and clouds, taken under very harsh light. Printed in

my home darkroom (perhaps that's the problem). Thanks for your help.

Beautiful picture!

The bottom third may be a bit "heavy"; if I had made this, I would have held back a little on exposing the bottom in the darkroom. Perhaps.

If I were going to open up the bottom, I would't do it to much. I think that the pier coming out of the darkness is appealing

First things first, the composition is nice, there is some good contrast, and the lighting appears to be good.

Now, to the fun.

The nice thing about this is, with your own darkroom, you can go for a lot of different effects with this. The negative has so much, that a great many possibilities came to mind. Some things to try:

1. You might try slightly burning the bottom of the pier and dodging the lighter part of the clouds to give the whole a more sinister, stormy look.

2. You could try burning just the darker portion of the clouds to add additional contrast and give it a softer, more sunset type of feel.

3. You could leave the sky as is but burn in the pier in order to open up that pier a but more and to provide more direction to the center of the print.

This is one of those negatives that you could have a lot of fun with making various different prints, each with its own unique feel and personality. It might be interesting to go back to this one several times when you are in different moods and see what you come out with.

I love these kind of pictures. It gives me an almost instant sense of serenity. You can almost feel the gentle breeze and hear a few sea birds in the background. Nice work.

Square format (crop at right or frame larger) seems better. Too dark as well for my taste. Regards.
