pipe & broken spectacles

good portrait. this has so much more character than the typical posed portrait. good cropping. i might have liked to see a bit more of his right hand, but no big loss. good catch.

Yeah, I agree, it has alot more than a normal portrait does. Tells a story, or, at least, makes me feel something. Bravo :)

Where did you get this image? Under what circumstances did you take this picture? Who is this guy. I don't think the photo tells a story as much as it asks a question. "Who am I?" So I wonder; who is this guy?

This picture is from Guiyan in the southern part of China. I was there covering the visit of a Norwegian minister. On the way to the temple, I saw this old man sitting by a little bridge. As I approached he was preparing his pipe. I asked for a picture, and he nodded and fired up the pipe while I was clicking away. I smiled and thanked him for the pictures and had to run to catch up with the rest of the group. Unfortunately I don't know anything more about him.

There is the smoke, fire, then the slant of the glasses - broken one. Finally the eyes, the eyes. a little photo with a lot of stories ...

I wish the broken lens played a bigger role in this photo.
