sambal 0 Posted July 6, 2006 Nigel, thanks very much for your comments & appreciation. The situation there warranted also the construction of a canon that could shoot downward. It is on display in the museum of this old fort. I'll attach it. It was meant to destroy bridges over the Elbe River, flowing just under the fortification. Cheers, Sam. Link to comment
nigel d 0 Posted July 6, 2006 Interesting, I have never seen a cannon designed to shoot downward. I suspect it had a limited purpose, as there are more effective close defences available - note that in the lower right of the picture you can see where hot oil would be poured on attacking soldiers. It is this sort of detail, that in my opion, make this photo. Note also the small house on the left showing the scale. Link to comment
