Moon Over Bridalveil, Yosemite National Park

craig_kunitsky

This was shot at the base of Bridalveil Falls with a 24mm lense, f22, tripod and about a 20 second exposure. The Moon was added with Photoshop (a copy of the moon from another image in this folder).

This must have been a very difficult exposure. You have captured it beautifully. The cliffs dramatically reach up toward the moon. The monotone was a great choice as the sky turns black. It is almost as if the rocks were glowing in the night or that the moon behind them somehow gave them light. You must be very pleased with this one.

Best of this folder. This is just awesome. Not a whole lot wrong with this. The one thing we haven't had in all of our trips.. a full moon and clear skys.

yep, thats a pretty big moon for a 24mm lens. looks like a 200mm or more lens was used for it. you should really disclose details of manipulation--whether in photoshoppe or a double exposure. its common courtesy.

Craig, I have nothing against using PS, 'cause photography is art anyway. I like your pictures, but you gotta say something about the moon before people see your works. It's definitely the same on all the shots of this folder. (without rating)

Marielou I really don´t understand what you are meaning. Your comment seems to be a little bit caustic as well. It´s no fault to manipulate pics in Photoshop - it´s a free world. What counts is the result when it´s hanging on your wall. But this moon never has been taken by using a 24mm lens. Don´t misunderstand me: I don´t want to degrade this work. I like the picture very much.

By the way: Thank you for your compliment of being a ´Photoshop-specialist´

Cheers

I am sorry that I did not go further into the picture details. I put it on in a hurry with few details. I darkened the sky, because the long exposure lightened it a bit, and I copied the moon out of my other Yosemite Half Dome B&W photo and placed it into this one for a more visually appealing final image. Thanks for the feedback.

If I were to do this, I'd try to paint in a sky with some detail in it aside from the moon. A little cloud details or even gradient in the sky tone would 'sell' the juxtaposition of the merged images. I like the idea of this photo very much.
