BW kid portrait...please feel fee to comment (for bad or good)...one of my 1st serious

attempt when light comes from different direction (natural light from windows)

It's a good picture but I can't help feeling it would have been better if the camera was level with the girl's eyes, instead of looking down on her. The range of tones is perfect.

Hi Laurent, Lovely girl, I would prefer to see more of her face. A little less clutter perhaps, the background is distracting. And yes come down to her level. Shooting at eyes level makes the shot more intimate. Just the same a nice portrait. Cheers.

Hello Laurant! Natural light coming in from the windows is wonderful. Even going in for a tighter crop might bring more focus to her eyes. And yes, eye-level with children is more effective. We can get away with that with children. Sometimes even below their eye-level is fun. With adults, being above the subject is more attractive, as it draws the chin up and sometimes eliminates the "double-chin"... gotta love gettin' old. :-) I've attached the cropped photo, if you don't mind.

Wishing you a beautiful day!

Thanks Dale and Roy, I appreciated your comments.

many Thanks Sherry for taking the time to make a crop proposal...I like it and agree it works reinforcing the impact of the face and eyes and makes more intimate....at the cost of abandonning the hair with light on them (which I liked)...there's a trade-off in everything...

I like it your way, Laurent. I wouldn't change a thing. The light in the little girl's hair is beautiful and the setting adds a little extra atmosphere to the scene, IMO of course! I also believe that a larger crop sometimes gives a little air in a picture and makes it breathe. Besides, the space from the little girl's head to her arms forms a triangle that gives good balance to the composition. I like the space you left around the subject just as it is.

That's what makes us all unique as photographers. Which is what makes it difficult for us to critique and get critiqued. We are all trying to accomplish something with our photography. If I were to put this picture in my scrapbook albums, I definitely would NOT crop it! If I wanted to use this photo as part of my portfolio to show my photographic talent, I would go with the crop. Either way... they are both adorable and the tones are great. Take care. :-)

Thanks Laurent and Sherry, I appreciated your comments. Laurent I did not think and realized about the triangle, very nice comment.
