Under the O.C. Pier

vincetylor

The first of many from Maryland's Eastern shore. A place I spent many happy years at, and one that I still have a great fondness for. It was a dreary beach day to begin with and as I started shooting this location, the fog literally rolled in just before darkness set. Used a tripod and cable release for this 25 second or longer exposure. Taken under the Ocean City Maryland, inlet pier. A great place to catch fish! Opinions are always welcomed. Thanks. www.hawaiianphotos.net

Vincent this is the first pier shot where it appeared more of a doorway than pilings and water. very eeeerrry indeed. was a welcomed surprise when I popped into your page tonight.

Excellent image,Vincent. Composition,DOF,color & light are just perfect and superb. I had 'NDE'(Near death experience). Perhaps a sight I saw when I was not physically conscious.

Very intense atmosphere - you either feel immediately uneasy or at peace, depending on your mood when viewing this. I find it peaceful and calm, but can understand how others might feel unsettled with the dark shadows. Nice lines, color and detail, Vincent.

I was wondering when you were going to bring your talents to Maryland :) You have done a wonderful job here in finding an alternative interpretation for photographing this very popular pier. The sense of depth and ominous feel (enhanced by the color treatment) is just fantastic. Perspective is spot-on for the composition you have chosen. Any more from Maryland? Cheers, Mauro.

Mystic underground water tunnel that beckons, yet a sense of forboding of something unknown ahead. The mood & tones are excellent

really a great capture Vincent.

as i started to analyze the image i was hit by the diverging pillars.... they immediately gave me a feeling like they were going to fall apart leaving the the whole pier free to crush me... I was wandering if this was intentional or it was a way to raise the horizon toward the higher third of the image.

the "falling" look - toghether with the mist and the overally dark exposure - gave me that crushing feeling that many reported.

i also found interesting the perspective running to a point that is not the dead center.... i guess this was intentional, at least, i would have done such thing to unbalance the image. On this point i wander if it was possible to try even more "off-center" images: did you try? was it worthy?

I love the background story attached to the image... i love to know what people though and what they felt while approaching to take a picture...

best regards

giuseppe

Only one way to improve on perfection ...... A Marketing genius in your corner (-;

Seriously this is one of your best - if not the best. The color is gorgeous and the shot really draws you out - as opposed to in. It crossed my mind too, what other shots you came away with here and what the other versions might look like. . )-;

Either way you nailed this one - and it must be comforting to know that even in your *twilight years* as a photographer - you can still pull it off once in awhile ... !

I used to train with bananas and a drum because I knew I would be carrying a 13 foot tripod, metal 8x10 field camera and lenses that weigh 5 to 7 pounds each.

What a shot man looks like a clip from a horror movie.

Cool man.

I would use most of the words u used to describe this place. It is very other worldly. The ONLY thing that kind of distracts me in teh image is the one pole so close to the camera. in some perspectives of the image I like it. But in others I like the image without it. Im not saying cropped differntly becuase seeing the fog off in the distance is definitally a big boon on this image. Over all I love it!
