How does the contrast work here - is it too much? What about the

light background areas? Should the faces be the lightest part of the

photo?

To your question:

In my opinion, I preferred to have the background darker, but this is about more or less about taste IMO, since the bokeh is great.

The contrast on the older boy is pretty perfect. I'd increased the contrast of the younger's face a bit.

Paul, I think you have a great picture here. I played with the contrast just to see what could be done. Here is my version but it really is a matter of taste. Adorable subjects!

Excellant job here. I like the contrast and the subjects are adorable.

Excellent shot Paul, nice expression, tones and composition.

I thought right away how good the range of tones are in the photograph, without it being overly contrasty or bland. I don't know if faces should always be the lightest part of the photo, I would think just whatever suits the individual set up. I like the slightly offside composition, and it is nice how although it is posed, it still feels natural with the younger boy looking up to the side.
