michael_weber1 0 Posted February 10, 2002 very nice photo (and having a lovely model helps)... i find that i don't enjoy many portraits, but i really like this one.... the "soft" lighting effect works really well and the way she has her head tilted is very expressive .... Link to comment
nnn_nnn 0 Posted February 11, 2002 I agree with Michael. One of my favorite portraits on photo.net (and I like only few :-). Link to comment
raymond_liow 0 Posted February 11, 2002 This shot is way overexposed. Tune it a little with PS and I'm sure it'll turn out way better. Link to comment
marinus_truxedon 0 Posted February 11, 2002 There is a battle going on here... The lightness gives her a sense of innocence, yet the look on her face in kind of condescending, making her look accusive (is that a word?) and making the viewer feel like they've done something wrong... Good work. Link to comment
sarasotalizz 0 Posted February 11, 2002 In response to the "overexposed" comment - this was done /on purpose/ in Photoshop to give it the effect it has, that of a soft, powdery photo. Link to comment
paedric 0 Posted February 11, 2002 overly blown out - seems like less a choice than a mistake. good eye contact with the subject. the crop is just a bit weird frame right where it just keeps her armpit shadow. Link to comment
nnn_nnn 0 Posted February 11, 2002 Paedric, I would really like to make more "mistakes" like this one. Link to comment
rdwhiteman 0 Posted February 12, 2002 Lovely pose, lighting, model etc. I'm not sure why I can't give higher than 5 for aesthetics...maybe the coarse look of the shadows.(?) They seem quite out of place with the overall smoothness of everything else. As I'm looking at it (can't seem to leave it!) it's occured to me that the photos background and the background of the web page are opposing each other (not your fault) and this creates an objectionable mix. Maybe a border that compliments the color scheme of the image would help the presentation. In fact I'm sure it would so I'm upgrading my aesthetics score in good faith. I really dislike the white web page! A neutral grey would be better maybe? We'll leave that to the photo.net elves... Update: Like it with the frame much better. The cooler white of the photo isn't fighting with the photo.net white background. Link to comment
arthur sevestre 0 Posted February 12, 2002 Somehow this is a picture I'm having difficulties to comment on. I think it's quite obvious that the result is as you intended it to be and I think I quite like the effect. It works well with the way the model looks in the lens. A dark gaze in a light world (or something like that). Just a weird idea of mine: if you would cropp off the lower part just past her right shoulder (left in the picture) and also cropp off some of the right part of the picture, with her left shoulder, I think the contrast between that "dark gaze" and the light surroundings would get much more obvious. Maybe you like the idea, maybe you don't. Link to comment
jonathancharlesphoto 2 Posted February 23, 2002 Dramatic pose and expression and I think your "powdery" high-key treatment works well. I just wondered if you had considered a "soft crop" to a traditional oval... Link to comment
jonathancharlesphoto 2 Posted February 23, 2002 ... like this (I'll delete this in a few days unless you would like to leave it up for discussion) ... Jonathan Link to comment
