Taken handheld, with Flash. How does one deal with "overtanned"

models? Red filter-is what I have done here, but that doesn't reflect

true skin tones? Suggestions welcome.

If my memory serves me correctly, a red filter transmits more light at the red end of the spectrum, right? In my 'experiments' with Photoshop channel mixing, I have found that playing with the green channel seems to do more for overall skin tones for a B&W image. I'm not entirely sure if this is achievable in practice by using an actual filter on the lens.

Have you tried a yellow filter instead? IMHO, the couple of B&W portraits I've shot with a medium yellow filter usually have more depth and richness to the skin tone. And my subject was a pretty strongly tanned caucasian gentleman as well. When I find the negs I'll scan and post the photos on PN for you to have a look.
