Playing around with portraiture set-ups. Maybe the pose needs a

Once in college I did a smoking pose sitting a chair for a photography student. We used a big White Owl with a cloud of smoke like a forest fire.

Having smoke in the scene would add atmosphere. Unless the model is really a smoker it might not look real. I would not advise learning to smoke just for the photo. It would be better not to ever touch the things.

He is most definitely a smoker, and would be happy to sit for a retake with a big puff of smoke. ( : He has never heard of a White Owl, though. Just an old, smelly cigarette, right?

White Owl is a brand of cheap cigar. Many years ago, stores used to keep them on shelves in the aisles. They were easier for underage children to steal than cigarettes.
